![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The first image shows the comet in front of a distant background spiral galaxy (2MASX J10500165-0152029). These new observations taken in November and December 2019 of the comet at a closer distance provide clearer insights into the details and dimensions of the interstellar visitor. In October 2019, Hubble observed the comet at a distance of approximately 420 million kilometres from Earth. It is only the second interstellar object known to have passed through the Solar System. At a breathtaking speed of over 175 000 kilometres per hour, Borisov is one of the fastest comets ever seen. The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has once again captured comet 2I/Borisov streaking through our solar system on its way back into interstellar space. ![]()
